Ferrari ‘really interested’ in signing current F1 driver for 2025 season

Zhou Guanyu says Ferrari is “really interested” in signing him as a reserve driver for the 2025 season.

Ferrari has already confirmed its line-up for next year, with Lewis Hamilton replacing Carlos Sainz as Charles Leclerc’s teammate.

Chinese driver Zhou has been dropped by Sauber for 2025 after three years with the team. Zhou and Bottas leave, replaced by Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto.

With no other free seats available on the grid, Zhou is considering a back-up role to stay immersed in the F1 paddock.

“We are talking with several teams and, of course, Ferrari remains one of the teams that is really interested in me,” Zhou said in Las Vegas.

“We have to see, obviously there’s a lot to come over the next few weekends for us to make a decision, but clearly we’re looking at all the options we have and seeing where we are.

“For my part, I don’t want to commit to the future just yet because I want to make sure everything is defined and clear, and commit massively to the next project.

“I hope something will happen and be decided soon. I think within the next few weeks I will have a clear idea.”

The 25-year-old, who is yet to score a point this season, was a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy from 2014 to 2018 before joining Alpine’s junior program and the Scuderia are one of the parties interested in Zhou’s services next year.

Ferrari will lose its main reserve driver next year with British teenager Ollie Bearman – who replaced Sainz in Saudi Arabia in March – taking up a full-time seat at Haas next year.

Zhou had his worst F1 season to date, with Sauber still bottom of the standings with no points to his name.

His final two races in F1, at least during his current stay, will take place in Qatar and Abu Dhabi over the next 10 days.
